Merry Christmas To All!

December 25th, 2009

Okay something is wrong here!!

It is now 6:25 am on Christmas Day and I still haven’t been to sleep yet. I guess that means that Santa Claus isn’t stopping here this time?  I don’t understand why I can’t fall asleep at night any longer.  I am on so  much medication and take sleeping pills to help me sleep, but none of that seems to do a dang thing anymore.  I have people telling me that it is up to me to control my sleep habits, but you try to fall asleep when all you do is toss and turn and stare at the ceiling and hear every little noise from both inside and outside the house.  I have tried playing with my DS, going downstairs and using the PC, watching television Christmas downstairs on the couch under a blanket to fall asleep yet nothing is working.  Granted, give me until around 1:00 pm and I will feel like crashing.  This of course will be right in the middle of everything going on Christmas Day.  Just what I need to have an argument over my sleeping habits of all things with my eldest daughter’s boyfriend going to be here for the first time!

HELP ME PLEASE!!

Oh and by the way,

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Day!!

Wait I Want A DO-OVER!!

December 11th, 2009

Okay so here it was going on 8:30 am, time to get up so we can start this “wonderful day” trekking Pops-In-Law all over bloody creation!  One problem…

No sleep for this guy!  Yup that’s right I couldn’t fall asleep for love nor money the night before!  It was the old toss and turn, watch the clock, pet the cat, run to the bathroom so as not to freeze, and then finally give up and head downstairs cause sleep just was not happening.

Alright we get on our way and I decided to take the Mrs. out for a quick inexpensive breakfast at Mickey D’s.  Not bad, it is getting better I begin to think, until on our way to eat this box truck decides to pull out in front of us and drop speed to about 15 in a 40.  Argh!!! We’ll deal no problem.  So at the 1st chance we get we get around the truck and off to breakfast we go.  Get there and who pulls in?  Yup you got it the truck!  Ah it’ll be gone when we leave.  Right! Not today it won’t.  No sooner do we start to pull out of our spot then the truck starts up and pulls out in front of us.  Okay he is turning left and we are going right so that will be that until he decides he needs the right and left sides of the driveway and sits there until absolutely no vehicles are in view before he pulls out.

On our way to get Pops to  take him to the eye doctor for a 10:30 appointment.  Get him and get there early only to find the waiting room completely full.  Doesn’t bother him as he fell a week ago Friday and is now using a wheelchair to get around.   Get settled and wait. 10 min, 30 min, 45 min, 1 hour, 1 hour and 2o minutes and finding out that the chart had been pulled, but placed down in the wrong spot by one of the eye dr.’s assistants that do the vision test he needed done.  In he goes for the test, boom that goes well, oops nope, report stops printing right in the middle of it!  They decide to take him to the next test and fix the issue while the doc sees him later.  So this test is a pressure test that checks the vessels in your eyes to see if they are blocked or constricted.  He needs to sit still for this one so they can get a computer image of the eye and vessels.  Does the 82 year old fidget master sit still? Yeah right!  Okay finally done and tell the lady that it is probably out of paper and that is why it stopped printing, basing it on the big pink streak running down the sides of the part that printed.  “Oh no it still prints for a while after that starts.”  So I finally get her to check and what is it? Yup out of paper thank you very much!  SO now off to the final room for the eye chart test and the doctor to give us the lowdown.

We sit there and wait as we watch the time for our next appointment come and slip past.  SO I call the next doctor, Pops’ D.O. and tell the receptionist that we are running late because of the delay at the eye doctor’s.  How late she asks, checking to see if she should tell us not to come.  I tell her that the Doc wants to see him today because of his fall and that we didn’t know how much longer it would be, and the eye doctor walks in and I tell her so I hung up.  He apologizes and tells us that an older patient just had a stroke in his lobby and he had to wait until the ambulance came before he came back here.

The eye doc checks everything and tells us that Pops unfortunately by state law, your vision must not exceed 20-50 in at least one eye (Pops is 20-100 and 20-25),  Pops passed.  Then he says “However, I really think that you shouldn’t be driving anymore as you failed the peripheral vision test very badly!”  Pops on the other hand tells him that his peripheral test doesn’t work and he isn’t going to take that again, and he still is going to drive.  So now we have an eye doctor, a DO and a phsyotrist all telling him that he should not be driving and he is going to anyway.  Take away his keys you say?!?  Okay we tried that and he just took a cab to the dealership and got a new set right down to the alarm fob!

Now off to the DO. Not bad just about 35- 40 minutes late.  We get there sign in and wow, this place moved quickly! Okay things are going to look up from here!  Whoops, spoke too soon!  On our way to pick up a ladder from the house of the properties manager for Pops, this ninny in a Ford Explorer XLS decides to change lanes.  He slammed right into our rear passenger side bumper as we are stopped waiting for traffic to move and the guy in front of him to finish pulling into our lane, my wife being the kind driver she is.  Well the boob changes lanes, or starts to, and never saw us sitting there, as he said,” so I never hit the brakes”, and then tried to change the story to that he slid into us when he tried to stop.

So now with a crunched in rear bumper, whiplash to me, my wife and pain back to my knees and all down both of our backs,………

I WANT A DO-OVER!!

I must say that there isn’t a day that goes by lately that I am not surprised in some way or another.  As my last post said, our A@s was in the fire and we were on the cusp of losing our van to the dreaded “Repo Man”! (Sounds almost like a superhero doesn’t it?)  I actually thought that this time was it and there was no way to pull our butts out of this one!  This turned out not to be the case! Just as I was about to hoist the white flag of surrender and resign myself to having lost the battle of debts, a totally unexpected proposal from a totally surprising individual was presented to me!!

We were on our way out to have a consoling Whopper at BK for dinner, it was $1.79 Whopper day in our neck of the woods, when our eldest daughter said something in the back of the van that I didn’t really catch. I just figured she was gabbing about work and things with her mom, and I was still pondering and delving deep into the corners of my noodle for a solution, those who know me well will tell you that I do not like to give up or lose the battle to the debt mongers!  Little did I know that I should have been paying attention to the other conversation going on in the van!  What I had missed and found out later in BK was that my sweet dear eldest daughter had offered up the majority of her savings to keep us from losing the van!  Can you say “Knock me over with a feather why don’t you”!

I totally did not expect that to happen.   I didn’t even know that she had saved up that much money in her MM account, let alone be willing to bail us out.  I must say that she has definitely grownup/matured a great deal this past year.  I guess having a job and having to pay your own bills has taught her a good life lesson.

All I can say is I that God sure does work in mysterious ways, and I am one of the luckiest men I know to have such a wonderful daughter.  I must admit that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree where my daughter and wife are concerned!!

Thought for the day:

Never underestimate the power of family or love.  They both show there true colors and depth when you least expect it!

Did you tell your family how much you love them today?!?

Alas Yet Again My A@S Is In The Fire!

So another day passes and the 800 numbers keep calling and I know it is bill collectors and people who want blood from a stone. Unfortunately I decide to pick up a call knowing who it was on the other end.  What I didn’t know was that my lovely bank decided to play “Ruler/Owner” with my account and pick and choose whom to send money to this paycheck! What a way to find out!  Answer a call and find out that if you don’t shell out beau coups  bucks by Monday’s close of business your vehicle goes on the Repo List!!  What a glorious way to end your day!!  Anyone know the winning Mega Million Numbers for the next drawing?

ARGH!! Continued….

November 9th, 2009

So where was I? Oh yes.  Just when things start going well someone always has to throw a monkey wrench into the works.  In our case it was one of the “Princesses”, who decided that the speed limit around the airport was just for tourists and Ohioans!! Unfortunately the policeman that was lasering the area disagreed with her and gave her a ticket for 76-80 in a 70 zone, actually she was clocked at 81.  As is just our luck,  she had a previous ticket on our insurance that would be coming off in February of 2010.   Now in lieu of having our auto insurance decrease by the 20% her ticket cost us the first time, we are now faced with an additional 10% increase!! Oh aren’t we just the lucky ones!!!

Now to make matters even worse, I am having such fun with our auto finance company that we pay monthly for the van.  Lets just call the van the “Black Mariah”.  Since we have gotten her she has served us well, but there has always been some issue or other.  Case in point almost 11 times to get the DVD player to work properly, a leaky roof that only showed up under torrential downpours, and weather stripping that continuously rips.  Its no worries though, all were taken care of except the weatherstripping, as that still is ripped and warranty period is done.  However, the biggest pain in the rear is Ford Motor Credit Financing!  They consistently find it necessary to delay processing my payment anywhere from 24 to 72 hours after I make it.  This would normally be fine for anyone else, but for someone that has to play funds close to the vest, it isn’t a blessing but a curse!  It seems that this is continuously causing the payments to be returned by my bank as I am using those funds because they haven’t been taken from my account when they should be thus incurring excessive $35 Returned Item charges.  I think I am coming close to holding the record for the most charges to an account in 1 month let alone a year!!!  Now much to my dismay, we are forced to do money gram payments for the van every month incurring an extra $9.00 in fees to send the money!! All I can say is ARGH someone shoot me now!!

Just When You Think You Stand A Chance…..

November 4th, 2009

Yup!  Did you ever feel like there is someone out there that sits by watching and waiting for you to think you are finally going to have things go your way and see a little bit of good come your way, only to have them burst out laughing, go no no no and slam you with something else that pulls you right back to where you were or even worse?  Well it seems like that is all that ever happens to us.  Last month we thought we were going to be finally breaking even on the bills and would be able to start to pay down some of the credit cards so we would have some room to give the girls a bit of a Christmas this year.  Unfortunately we took the van in for a quick oil change and found out that we needed to replace all 4 ball joints, all four tires and all the shocks. So a quick $14.95 oil change now became a have to pay $1300.00.  I quick started to check around to see if I could save some here and there by going some where else.  Went to my guy at Ford who has been watching for a good sale on tires for me, only to find out he left the dealership. So I checked with the other guy and their price was almost $1,000 more.  I checked other ads and looked only, but the original quote seemed to be the best.  So we scrimped scrounged and finally begged Pops for some help with a promise to pay him back a little bit monthly, only to find out that he just bought himself a new car, Chevy HHR.  Being such the guy he is, he decided to lease it out to the transportation company that drives him around, and buy himself a new one.  Then he tells me that he thinks he is going to lease this one to the same company and buy himself a new one again!!.  There went my hopes!!

Well sucking in my pride I wrote a letter to our Church’s Board of Prayer and Care that helps the members out that are in financial hardship.  After waiting a week and a half and getting strange vibes from members that we thought were friends,  we finally got an answer. It was we are sorry but we do not have the funds that you require right now.  So at this point I was ready to just disappear, but remembered that I wouldn’t get very far since the van was why we needed the money in the first place.

Do you hear that guy laughing hysterically at me yet?  I did by this time.

Well as luck would finally have it, Pops finally came through for us and paid to have the van fixed with the condition we pay him something every month.  okay, that isn’t too bad I think we can scrape by with that arrangement.  Whew, what a relief! That guy didn’t get that big a laugh at our expense after all!

Yeah right! I guess I thought too loud, because as our luck would have it what happened today just really puts the nail in the proverbial coffin.

Want to find out more?  Tune in tomorrow when I finally sort it all out and see where we are going to wind up!!!

So What If….

September 12th, 2009

Did you ever get the feeling that in today’s world the respect parents once had is gone?
I remember when I was a kid that it was kind of written in stone that you respected your parents, or even if you really didn’t respect them at least you gave them common courtesies.  That has been lost some place over the years as I have gone from black hair to ever more controlling gray.  When you were growing up didn’t you just find it the norm to tell the people that you live with, aka your parents, if you were going out some place, weren’t going to be home for dinner, or even basically what your plans were for the weekend or even just for that day?
Well that I guess is no longer fashionable to do.  Now don’t get me wrong, my kids are good kids and thank God they aren’t into the truly bad things that kids these days can and a lot of the time are dragged into.  Some even say that I should be grateful that “small things” like this are all I am complaining about with them.  Well you know what I say to that – Hoowie!!
What am I ranting about must be crossing your mind right about now.  Well, here goes…
Back ground:
Younger daughter, just turned 20, drives a new Trailblazer that I bought about a year ago, and am still making payments on.  She considers it “Her Car”, that is to everyone but us where she says that it isn’t what she would have picked if it was hers.  The agreement was she pays a set amount each month and she can drive it.  Ya know what, it is still I guess my car as she isn’t even paying anything towards the car, she is just paying the insurance right now.  That being such…
Gripe:
I found out today that my vehicle is going to be used as a moving truck to move her cousin back home.  Well it would have been nice to have been asked to use it for that purpose since no matter how careful you try to be something always happens to mess up the vehicle when used to move stuff. Needless to say that does not make me happy.
Next, I decided to make a nice meatloaf dinner with potatoes, fresh green beans, salad and corn on the cob for dinner tonight and the wife was planning a niece Roast Beef dinner with all of the sides for Sunday, a great idea since everyone is all over the place during the week a nice meal on the weekend is a yummy way to catch up with each other.  No dice, last night I found out the oldest isn’t planning to be home tonight, she decided to make it a game night/sleep over at her Aunt’s house, that is where her cousin is moving to, and possibly won’t be home tomorrow either.  That usually means that the young one will not be home tonight either.  So much for a nice dinner this weekend.  The rule we do have for stuff like this is they are supposed to write down on the calendar, at least a few days in advance, when they will not be home for dinner and if they aren’t going to be home at all.  A little common courtesy for the people you live with not to be freaking out that you aren’t home at night when you think that they are going to be!!

Am I wrong and over reacting?  Is it that we are being smothering?  Do we have a right to be a bit perturbed?

What is your call on this?

The King would like to know!

Where Has The Time Gone?

September 5th, 2009

Holy cow! I didn’t realize how much I have neglected all of my royal subject! I humbly pray that thou dost forgiveth me! Well if thou does not “Off With Their Heads!! I doth only kiddeth minions so feareth not!

Tis mine own fault.

Just the other day I was conversing with an apothecary from a neighboring kingdom. We pondered at the notion that time passeth exponentially basedeth upon age.
Caseth in point- when thou is a youngster time passeth ever so slowly. It leaveth you ranting hurrieth up and come on alreadyeth! I can not waiteth til it be the season of Christmas! Then once Christmas hath passed one findeth theirself chomping at thyne bit for spring to arriveth, then for summer to be here. Each one upon itself taking what feeleth like forever to be here.

Alas, once thou hast reached the age of 25 and thou hast finished all of thyne studies and it is into the real world and earning funds to payeth the tax man, it seemeth like thy life doth fly by ever so fast! 1 day turneth into a week, turneth into a month turneth into two months turneth into six months and afore one knoweth a year hath passed on. I remember the day that my wife and I hath crossed paths. Twas on-line on a fine wintry night in December 1996. Twas February of 1997 when we met face to face when I had flowneth her to meet me in NY to share our 1st Valentine’s Day together. It seems like it twas yesterday and not 12 years and a wee bit short of 7 months from our first meeting. Having passed our 9th wedding anniversary the end of July seems almost impossible. I still see the young faces of our 23 and 20 year old daughters as the wee ones they were on our first meeting. It can’t be so long ago, but it is just ask my bones they will definitely affirm that the time has passed since then. DO I have any regrets? Unfortunately I must say that I do. What are they, well let me see…

Ah yes!

I regret that I had waiteth as long as I had to marry my wife. I regret that I have gotten ill. I regret leaving my wife and kids alone 4 days after I moved them to NY from Michigan with them knowing not really a sole and at odds with the in-laws. I also regret the accidents that we have had in 2005 and my injury in 2006. And my biggest regret is that I am not able to provide all that my wife deserves and desires to make her life as wonderful as she makes mine each and every day since our two lives have joined.

Royal Ponderous for today:

Take each day as it may come remembering to live it the best that you can. Make certain that you enjoy every moment that is given to you, but not forgetting that you touch the lives of those around you. So, remember to make every action that you do one that brings joy to those around you and love to those that love you. For if time doth seem to you to passeth ever so quickly, imagine how quick it really is passing! God Blessings to you All and Love to those you love and that love you! Remember every person is a friend that you haven’t yet met until you say hello! Hello!

‘Tis The Bless-ed Day For The Irish!
